I grew up in a home that did not know the word craft. I have no creative blood running through me. I am now on a mission from craftless to craftsy. Here I will chronicle my mission learning new crafts with no help aside from books and the internet. All the while keeping my almost 2 year old happy. Any successful items I will post for sale in my etsy store. This should prove interesting and most likely disastrous. Wish me luck!

Not as easy as it looks
So I have been spending what extra time I have the past couple days working on my knitting. (Remember I had to put my winterwoolscarf project aside while I wait for my sweaters) It is a bit of a struggle although I have found a good youtube video. I have knitted a few rows, then pulled them out and reknitted. Fun Stuff.. Actually I am enjoying the challenge, for now. So back to work I go. I will post pics tomorrow of some practice rows to give a giggle or two to myself at least.

Found!
So after dragging my 20month around all day yesterday I finally ebay searched again last night and found several sweaters. I have decided to wait for them to get here before I do my summer wool scarf. In the mean time I think I will see if I can figure out how to knit. While I was looking for material yesterday I came across a 20$ dvd on how to knit. I almost picked up when I realized I should probably try and search youtube instead. And so I shall...... The baby is napping now so off I go

Fail
Well after checking out SEVERAL thrift/second hand stores I came up empty handed. I decided to go to a fabric store to purchase 100% wool fabric $$$$$$$$$$ I bought two small swatches to see if they would felt. The answer is I should have kept looking for sweaters. One thing that I have to figure out though in the whole felting situation is the heat factor. The material cannot go through the spin cycle so it is soaking wet when you take it out of the washing machine and VERY hot. Maybe put it in a colander to drain first? So now I have my material for my first project. A fine summer project it will be... a wool scarf. Oh geesh I said this would be disasterous!
In the beginning
About 2 years ago while I was pregnant with my daughter I entered the nesting stage. Unfortunately my nesting instincts decided I needed to start crafting something for her room. So I did, and the outcome was the nursery letters that are all the rage right now.
I really enjoyed making them and so I have continued doing so for friends and as I have slowly become better at them I started selling them very recently on Etsy. I have a friend who will be popping out a 2nd child this summer and this weekend I went shopping for his letters. While at the craft store I picked up a book on felting. It was on sale and at the counter, so what the heck.
The book is called "I can't believe Im Felting" and claims to be easy patterns for people like me with NO experience. The first few patterns are done with wool sweaters. No knitting required. So I figured this would be a great first craft for my new journey. Step one find 100% wool sweaters. Step one #Fail!!! I live in Tulsa OK and its summer. I hit all the Good Will stores and have found ZIP. UGGG So now I shall continue to search until I find my sweaters and then will begin Step two felting them. I hope that step is a little easier.
